Objective of the tender Design and purchase of zebrafish/small fresh water multirack systems for a new zebrafish facility including installation work. Design should also contain work space (area for breeding and handling fish) and small ante room. The systems should include 10-13 aquarium racks with re-circulating life-support systems and monitoring of critical environmental parameters. The systems should consist of larger unit(s) for nursing zebrafish larva and housing of adult zebrafish (8-10 racks), and smaller independent stand-alone unit(s) consisting of 2-3 racks. The tender should include sufficient amount of diverse tanks and auxiliary equipment for normal operation (nets, turnover of tanks during washing, tanks for rearing larva and juvenile fish, smaller and larger tanks for housing individual and cohorts of adult zebrafish and breeding tanks). Optional equipment such as automatic feeding robot, tank washer or systems for food production (hatching of artemia nauplii) could be included in the tender. A premise (room) suitable for the installation has been designated (see information below). Following the design, the room housing the system will fitted by the contracting unit if so required (University of Turku) according to requirements of the design. Installation of the system should be ready within 3-6 months after the room has been prepared according to design. Maintenance requirements and maintenance contract for the system should also be provided.

Content of the tender University of Turku and Åbo Akademi want to build a new zebrafish/small fresh water fish facility for breeding, nursing and housing zebrafish. The purpose of system is to cover all needs in terms of using zebrafish model for biomedical research. The tender encompasses complete system design for holding tanks for adult and larval zebrafish in dedicated space laboratory space. Design should encompass working space (breeding and handling of fish) and small entrance/ante room. The zebrafish system should consist of larger system(s) of racks (8-10) serving as nursery and holding space for zebrafish. In addition, we need independent smaller stand-alone systems for experiments or as quarantine (2-3 racks). Additional equipment such as breeding tanks, sufficient supply of fish tanks for maintenance operations (washing) and nets also required. Room layout and technical information attached, see Appendix 1 Room layout. Equipment included in the tender (see terms of tender): • Racks for holding tanks for adult and larval zebrafish • Different sized tanks for larval, juvenile and adult zebrafish • Breeding tanks • Recycling water life-support systems including pumps (able to hold set flow in response to variable system loads), filtration unit (mechanical filter, active carbon filter, UV-lamps, biological filter). Sump(s) and water reservoir • Water oxygenation system(s) • Environmental Monitoring units (pH, conductivity, water level, flow and temperature sensors) • Controllers for automated dosing of salts and NaHCO3required for water conditioning • Controllers for automated water exchange • Nets Installation included in the tender: • Installation of the racks • Labour for installation, accommodation, travel costs • Plumbing of racks to existing plumping • Specific electric works for system • User training • Delivery of equipment • Possible extra costs (customs charge etc) • Garbage disposal Additional information requested from the tenderer: • Availability of service and support • Maintenance procedures and costs • Delivery time and cost of consumables • Delivery time and cost of spare parts • Quotation for an annual service contract • Warranty • Definition of required installation room electricity, plumbing, air conditioning specifications and other requirements for installation. • Alignment with reducing environmental impact (energy and water consumption, and consumables).
