Tampere University Foundation sr is inviting tenders for 'Autoclave with loading unit'. This is the first part of a bigger investment referred to as 'H2 Mechanical testing machine". This call focuses on the mechanical testing system and the autoclave. Second call will concern the gas flow and laboratory safety systems. The call for tenders concerning the second part will be opened later this year (2024). This call is funded directly by Research Council of Finland - and indirectly by EU RRF Regulation (EU 2021/241 Recovery and Resilience Facility) .

Tampere University, Engineering Materials Science has a strong strategic focus on evaluating material performance in different challenging environments at different length scales. Several professors and research groups are working on mechanics, fatigue, tribology, and wear focusing on the characterization of material behavior as well as numerical simulations and predictions of materials performance and lifetime. The mechanical testing machine with H2 atmosphere will enable experiments in a challenging environment focusing especially on material interactions with hydrogen gas. The lifetime of different materials as well as joints and contacts is strongly influenced by the interaction of hydrogen gas, and the acquired equipment will allow testing of material properties, behavior and lifetime under uniaxial tension, shear, and cyclic loading. The system should be modular so that the university can update it later with new measurement instruments. The research groups will test mechanical response of all material groups including metals, ceramics, polymers, composites and coatings.
