Broad argon ion beam mill suitable for preparing cross-sections and surface polishing of samples of various nature for scanning electron microscopy imaging (SEM), including elemental and structural analysis, such as X-ray spectrometry (EDS/WDS) and electron backscatter diffraction analysis (EBSD).

Specific mandatory requirements for the instrument

• The system must fulfill the following minimum requirements. Any (small) parts/items/software components required for fulfilling the overall functionality described must be included, such as sample positioning tools, even if not separately listed;

• The offer may only contain items that are finalised products, tried and tested and fully functional within the setup specified. Prototypes or other unfinished software components or hardware configurations or items not fully tested or found compatible with each other, may not be included in the offer, neither as options nor as items fulfilling the requirements. There has to be at least ten same production models (minor differences in configuration are allowed) delivered and in use;

• Necessary electronics and housing included, as well as computer software, if required;

• Installation on site. The final acceptance shall take place after installation and test runs (showing guaranteed specs promised) on site;

• Appropriate spare parts.

Appropriate set of tools and spares required for initial maintenance must be supplied with the instrument.

Technical

• dry vacuum system;

• ion acceleration voltage of at least 8 kV;

• cryogenic stage cooling using liquid nitrogen for thermally sensitive materials;

• cross-section holder capable for samples of at least 10 mm in width;

• holder for surface polishing, capable for samples of at least 30 mm in diameter and 15 mm in height;

• ability to rock the sample during ion milling;

• ability to rotate the sample during ion milling;

• compatibility with air-free sample transfer system from the ion mill to e.g. glove box as a user installable add-on later;

• adapter for mounting sample holders to Thermo Scientific SEM using pin stub compatible stage (max. total assembly height 55 mm).

Training for use, technical support and spare parts

• initial user training to Buyer's personnel with the ion mill and accessories in connection with the installation on site;

• advanced training on the ion mill and accessories for 4-6 persons;

advanced application training for the ion mill and selected accessories shall be given to buyer’s personnel on site within 6 months after the installation. Advanced training shall be conducted in professional manner by the experts in field of the Supplier. The advanced training can be given either on site or remotely;

• all technical documents and manuals (complete set of drawings and manuals for installation, use and service) shall be delivered together with the System in the extent that it does not compromise the supplier's intellectual property;

• prices of user exchangeable spare parts must be included;

• the period of warranty must be at least 24 months. The warranty period starts when the device has been installed and confirmed in writing to be fully functional by the head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Longer warranty times can be offered

Other

• descriptions and/or brochures of the products included;

• the supplier has to provide a possibility of analysing the buyer’s test samples, at no costs to university, using methodology and instructions provided by the buyer prior to entering into the agreement;

• include a description of the supplier's maintenance and technical facilities and its measures for ensuring quality;

• the supplier guarantees that appropriate spare parts, service and maintenance for the goods are available to the buyer at reasonable prices and terms during the period of at least 10 years from the date of final acceptance of the contract;

• the supplier is requested to declare whether the production of the instrument offered is going to be closed down or whether the instrument is to be replaced by new models in the near future;

• provide pricing information for the optional air free transfer unit;

• the product must be delivered before 29 October 2021.
