Fortum is planned to invest in Nuijala, Espoo with a new approx. 50-60 MW electric boiler, a 20,000 m3 district heat accumulator and DH pumping systems (the “Plant”). The Plant will store, produce, and deliver heat to Fortum district heating network in Espoo and Kirkkonummi. The Plant is designed to be operated remotely from the main control room at Suomenoja power plant (approx. 10 km from the Nuijala Plant). However, there will be a small local control room at the Plant for commissioning, start-up, maintenance, and trouble shooting. The design capacity of the electric boiler shall be 50-60 MW. However, at the beginning, the Plant will be connected into 20 kV grid that will limit the boiler capacity to max. 10 MW. A new grid connection at 110 kV to the Plant is planned to be completed a few years after the commissioning of the Plant. Thereafter, the boiler will be operated at design capacity. The boiler is designed to produce district heat independently without the heat accumulator or simultaneously parallel to the heat supply from the accumulator. In addition, the boiler is likely to be operated for heating the accumulator without connection to the district heating network (i.e. “isle mode”)
