The Finnish Science Centre Heureka (later “Heureka” or “The Customer”), located in the City of Vantaa, is planning a noteworthy upgrade of its world-class digital visualization system, the immersive Heureka Planetarium. The goal of the project is the renewal of the planetarium in a way that it meets the quality, accessibility and customer expectation demands of today. Through modernization of the planetarium’s inner dome, AV technology and equipment, the visibility and audibility of the image and sound quality will be updated and improved. By re-designing the theatre interior to meet modern accessibility standards the needs of people with reduced mobility, hearing or sight will be met accordingly.

The upgrading project includes the renewal of the inner dome structure and the complete AV technology, as well as modernizing the interior of the theater. The construction, installation and renewal schedule will be determined during the procurement procedure, in 2023. The aim is to open the renewed Heureka Planetarium for visitors in 2025.

Lyhyt kuvaus:

The Finnish Science Centre Heureka Planetarium offers a unique audio-visual experience of digital scientific planetarium films and inspirational guided educational programs. The planetarium's technology was the first in Europe to be digitized in 2007, however the presentation dome and screen surface are original (1989). Heureka Planetarium is amongst the largest digital planetariums in Europe seating 135 visitors. The films shown in the planetarium are in Finnish language, but may also be enjoyed in Swedish, English and Russian through external headphones.

In the project, the chosen system supplier is responsible for the complete inner dome renewal plan and its renovation as well as the planning, constructing, and assembling of the complete AV system. The chosen system supplier is also responsible for the equipment installation, coordination, training of Heureka staff and post-installation technical support. In addition, the customer will co-operate in the project with external technical, legal and customer space accessibility design experts. With the help of expert co-operation, the fulfillment of the entire project's goals, objectives and legality are guaranteed. In addition to the visitor experience, the aim is to improve the usability and safety of workspaces.

The demolition of the old theater is carried out by Heureka's real estate company, as well as groundwork for construction. The supplier is responsible for building the dome and installing technology to the site ready for use. For the sake of clarity, it is stated, that the project shall be carried out in such a way that the same supplier is responsible for the implementation of both the dome and the technology. The subscriber therefore wants one contracting partner, but subcontracting is permitted with pre-designated subcontractors.
