The services of external specialist team are purchased in order to involve best possible expertise in circular economy in transforming the nature of Finnish technology industry. Sitra has the expertise and networks needed to initiate the transformation into circular economy, the external specialist team will complete Sitra's expertise especially in the fields of production and product planning, creation of new business models, reverse logistics, and circular planning, understanding and adapting a role in business eco system and full utilization of the benefits of digitalization. The aim of this project is threefold: i) to recognize and define clear business benefits that manufacturing companies within the technology industry can achieve through circular economy and digitalization, ii) to develop operating models to realise these benefits as global advantages and sustainable growth which enable investments and innovations, and, iii) to establish the means to change the companies' business logic to “as a service” business model. The developed operating models and possible other tools are offered to Finnish companies along with support and sparring for implementing new business models developed by the service provider. A preliminary approach for the project is to focus on Finland's strong export-led clusters and their business areas. These are marine, energy, transportation, and, machinery and equipment in different sectors. The idea behind this focus is to speed up and enable the growth of cooperation on innovations within SMEs. SMEs which are looking for growth (see www.kasvuryhmä.fi) and start-ups which find partners from bigger companies (Nordic Innovation Accelerator) will be included in the project. The aim is to apply the principles of circular economy to create a global competitive advantage for the technology industry. The aim is transform the industry by enhancing sustainable growth, innovations, and investments.
