Current Research Information System (CRIS)

Aalto University Foundation

The procurement is a joint effort with several Universities in Finland seeking a CRIS system. Participating universities can be checked from invitation to tender.
The CRIS system is envisioned as the single authoritative source of up-to-date quality-assured information on research and artistic activities at the university. It will support academic staff, service staff in various functions and management at all levels in documenting, managing, reporting, sharing and evaluating research projects, activities and output (e.g. publications).
The system will replace systems currently in use for documenting academic activity at the university. The system will utilize significant amounts of information found in other university data-bases and information systems. It will also provide other systems data via other integration solutions and deposit data into a central data warehouse.
The system will enable up-to-date collection of research information directly from research staff. This will be supported by integration to publication databases and global researcher IDs, minimizing the need of manual input. In addition to managing publication metadata, the system will enable self-archival into the university institutional repository.
The data collection and validation workflows may be specified and controlled, enhancing data quality and enabling prognostics and the detection of under reporting. The system will create support for extended reporting on multiple organization levels and on various entities (e.g. persons, units, output types). The system will be used for yearly reporting and various scheduled university evaluations.
The system is Common European Research Information Format (CERIF) compliant. The data in the system can be published and processed in different ways. This includes creating reports and visualizations, exporting data in standard file formats and fetching it to other systems through web services. The system will enhance the university's online presence with a public research portal containing current research and artistic activities and output. The portal will offer individual researchers and artists the possibility of maintaining a public profile and CVs. Views may also be created for organization units, research projects, infrastructures etc.
