Large Area Imprinter
One of the key research areas of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is Printed Intelligence, which includes research carried out on photonics; especially manufacturing of discrete photonic and optical devices and integrating these using ceramic and plastic platforms. As polymers have become important component materials in making photonic devices, especially with UV based processes, it is seen that research and development of imprinting processes as well as application-oriented research using large are imprinting will expand in the coming years.
Earlier experience of UV imprinting processing at MicroModule Centre, a VTT office located in Oulu, Finland, has been gathered with wafer-level processing using equipment designed originally for lithography purposes. Capability for high resolution (sub-micron) patterning has been demonstrated, but several compromises had to be tolerated in replication usage.
To realise the unique potential of VTT’s multidisciplinary skills in optics, imprinting and integrated applications, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has decided to purchase a dedicated combined UV and thermal large area imprinter equipment to be used in manufacturing and application-oriented research.
The objective is to find a large area combined UV and thermal imprinting tool which is capable of producing high-resolution nanoscale features from millimetre to sub-micron scale with high throughput. Essential expectations of the equipment to be supplied include accuracy, process controllability and repeatability, reliability, flexibility and cost-efficiency.
The objective is to find a professional supplier that can guarantee a high standard of quality and a long-term maintenance and technical support for a reasonable expected equipment lifetime. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland will choose one supplier from among the tenderers.
